Easily navigate the new national standards for Chinese language education with our dedicated website providing instant access to vocabulary, grammar, and more.

The Sinology Institute is proud to present our self-developed online and free query platform for the national standards “Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education (GF0025-2021)”.

Struggling with the inconvenience of using the Standards (If you have ever tried to check the position of a specific Chinese character, vocabulary, syllable, or grammar point in the standards, you surely understand what I mean) led us to develop a solution - a dedicated website designed to streamline your search experience.

  • No registration is needed.
  • The access is completely free through the website or QR code.

We warmly welcome all students and foreign Chinese language teachers to explore this resource, use it to its fullest, and share your valuable suggestions and feedback with us.

Why you need this service now?

The Chinese Ministry of Education released the Standards in March 2021, which officially took effect in July 2021, but the first update HSK exam (HSK789) only happened in 2023.

But the differences still shocked most students and teachers:

  1. Levels from 6 to 9: The Standards consists of 3 levels and 9 bands(HSK1~9), while old HSK only has 6.
  2. Vocabulary from 5K to 11K: There are 11,092 outline words, twice as many as the old HSK, which is exactly 5,000.
  3. Grammar points: The grammar points have been detailed to 572, while old HSK is not even mention grammar after HSK3. (But HSK4~6 have grammars you need to learn. )
  4. Characters & Syllables: There is clear list of characters(3,149) and syllables(1,110) in the new Standards.

You will get those data as clear as me if you use the https://dict.nsc.guru/.

BTW, there is a query system on the official website of HSK exam. But I found out it is not completed yet and most worthy to give warning to is there are seemed some mix-up due to tech problem. The grammar section starting from the 122nd item doesn’t match. That means if your search is among the No. 123~572, the result is definitely not correct.

The most important ways to use our system.

You can just enter one character to get a whole list of relevant entries of vocabulary and grammar points. For example:

  1. Searching for the polyphonic and polysemous character “难” (means difficult), there are 38 entries related to this character within the vocabulary and grammar outlines.
  2. On the grammar page, searching for the term “紧缩” (compression), it will instantly list 9 grammar points related to 6 levels of “compressed complex sentences(紧缩复句)”.
